- America has long had a difficult relationship with its southern neighbour. Lest we forget, one of the most regurgitated moments in the country’s history – the rearguard action of the Battle of the Alamo (in San Antonio), in February and March 1836 – was part of a war between the fledgling Texas and Mexico. Trump’s ongoing inflammatory rhetoric has merely re-stoked a sense of suspicion which has smouldered for more than two centuries.
